All 1,600 workers at North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus have been offered voluntary redundancy – in what has been heralded as "a big step" towards the abolition of the organisation.

As reported, the Government is axing all 152 primary care trusts in the UK, putting their responsibilities on to GPs and borough councils.

In the meantime, the North East Lincolnshire trust has been told to slash its spending by £3.8 million by the handover in 2013.

Although a spokeswoman for the CTP was keen to point out that no staff are currently facing compulsory redundancy, she confirmed every employee had been invited to "register an interest" in stepping down voluntarily.

The option will also be open to those entitled to take early retirement, and will run alongside a general cost cutting drive across the trust.

Other cost cutting measures being put in place include cutting back on administration costs, by increasing the use of "paperless" agendas and other notices – as well as reducing the number of people being referred to the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

However, the spokeswoman said the impact on patient care would be "minimal".

For more local reaction to the plans, see today's Grimsby Telegraph.

“Frank, It is not, and never has been, any Government's Job to provide employment. It is their responsibility to provide the right climate for others, non-government bodies and Individuals to create jobs/employment. The Government is there to administer the affairs of state - in other words make sure that the money that we pay in various forms of taxation is wisely and justly spent - some of which goes to pay for those services that you get. You, in fact like the rest of us, owe the State a living. The State does not owe you anything - whether or not you are a Labour, Conservative, or Liberal Supporter!

It is the party whom you laud who has created this economic problem and spent the money that we don't have. The NHs was founded on a carefully calculated formulae and expanded over the years as more finance, paid for by taxation, became available.

All those things you get from the State come from Taxation of some description and at some source!”

“Citizen 0 - If the economy is strong and there is enough money, the government SHOULD create employment. That is what they did, they took a millions of people off benefits and put them into work, either through direct employment or through various other methods.

Let's not forget that the Labour Party took this country from the absolute pits (massive unemployment, NHS in pieces, crumbling schools, up and down economy), and basically turned it on it's head. The only reason things has happened is because of the WORLD banking crisis, and obvioulsy cuts need to be made to get our finances on an even keel. I just hope the ConDem coalition don't go too far with the cuts, but then again it will be nice to see the back of them in 2015.”

“At the end of the day the main cause of all these problems was the banking disaster. Labour would have made these cuts, just a year later.

My personal opinion is that many of the jobs in the PCT were not needed, and the amount of managers, secretaries and administrators is astounding. Look at how private sector companies have removed nearly all the padding and are working with the bare bones to get through the financial difficulties this country faces. The Public sector could not be shielded from it forever.

The sad thing is that there will be thousands, and eventually hundreds of thousands, of job cuts from the Public Sector, creating an even greater burden on the welfare state, plus loss of taxes from wages and spending. All this just to send a message out to the people that lend us billions every year that we are being careful.”

“Great sadness here now because none of these cuts are really waranted.
About 2 months ago the Brit Public was asked by the new Gov "where should the axe fall" to save money and enable the recovery to gain momentum.
The overwhelming reply came for the axing of overseas aid and stopping immigration over 80% of the nation voted for this.
The Gov reply ? Overseas aid and immigration costs will be protected from cuts.
Like 2 comments here the Brit Public got exactly what they voted for - no change.
However I ask the question, in that everyone I speak to say they never voted for the Cons or LibDems. If this is the case then surely our voting system must now be corrupt with the use of "postal Voting" which must stop.”

“smuggler, Grimsby you right of cause we cant but we cant either allow the rich all there tax havens either. But the bottom feeders are the ones who get it in the neck not the rich.

another is these firms who neglet paying tax so they fatten up rich. Vodaphone owe 5 bn the torries told them to pay 1.2bn to squash it. So they only looking after there budies.

The country full of cheap jobs or service industry because manufacturing is dead.

There is ways to get us back on feet which wont cause damaging cuts. Stop allowing the cost of property and land go out of control cut tax loopholes. Cayman isles must be the biggest country in the worls with all those registered businesses and idle rich.

We need to address the issue which makes us expensive country. Stop subsidising LONDON with wage top ups get there land and property value way down. Make uk cheaper to live in less wages needed to live. fine companies with gross hidious profits. Maybe nationalise utilities again to make them none profit.

We have to make britain that companies find it cheaper to invest, cheaper to operate and to do it we have to hurt the rich.

Thats the way forward but this government thick as two bricks. Will cripple this country with massive unemployment that will make past unemployment peaks blip in the ocean.

They so thick to think private industry will help ofset the polocy creating jobs in this climate is stupidly naive.”
