A180 to be closed until 10pm Wednesday after digger strikes bridge
A STRETCH of the A180 will be closed until about 10pm tonight, causing 40-minute delays.
As reported, a digger smashed into a bridge over the A180 at around 4.40pm on Tuesday, showering the road with broken concrete and debris.
A Highways Incident Response Team was on the scene quickly to clean up some of the debris and assess the integrity of the bridge, closing the eastbound carriageway at about 6pm.
The Highways Agency has now confirmed that it will now remain closed between junctions with the A160 and A1173 until around 10pm tonight, causing 40 minute delays.

“My comment on this is, why the inadequate reporting from the GT? This is potentially a serious story affecting many 1000s of people who use the A180 daily and surely they deserve better reporting.
Are both carriageways going to be closed or just the Eastbound whilst repairs are made? Is the entire road going to be closed for 7 days whilst the bridge is demolished? Are there long delays on the diversionary routes? Have efforts be made to divert traffic onto alternative routes instead of everything being taken off onto the A160 and travelling through Immingham?”

“I really wonder how so many HGV licences are issued to inappropriate people. My experience, once regarded lorry drivers as the best on the road, has completely changed to that of being the worst. Constantly I witness HGV driving without thought or care for other road users. This is a clear example of an ignoramous being unaware of the vehicle he was driving or the circumstances of those around him.”

“Gutcrusher -read the original report of this incident, it clearly states the JCB was being transported on the back of a lorry.”

“Poor poor Telegraph reporting. 'A digger hit the bridge'....................no mention that the digger was being transported on the back of a trailer!”

“Glad to see that, although it happened at 440 there were no signs up on the A160 leaving Immingham, when I left work at 1030 last night, until I hit the A180, meaning I had to drive to Barnetby top then back down the Barton Street, well done Lincs police, you excelled yourselves again....”
