VIDEO: Alan Connell loving every minute playing for Grimsby Town
ALAN Connell admits he is "loving" playing for Grimsby Town after bagging his third Mariners goal in less than a week.
The 27-year-old followed up his brace against Histon by calmly slotting home the 30th minute penalty to help the Mariners to an impressive 2-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday.
The Enfield-born striker, who joined Town from Bournemouth in the summer, already has four goals to his name this season and is relishing his time in Cleethorpes.
Speaking exclusively to the Telegraph he said: "The team always comes first and I really want to get promoted this season with Grimsby. But of course I've come here to play and try and score as many goals as I can.
"I'm loving the fact that I'm playing and that I'm playing up front, where I want to play, which hasn't always been the case.
"The manager has put his faith in me and hopefully I'm doing something towards repaying that.
"I'm pleased with the way it's going, pleased to have four goals and will take them however they come.

"I just want to crack on now next game and try to get another one.
"I'm pretty confident at the moment. I'm enjoying my football and being amongst the boys, who are a good group – we all get on well.
"Fingers crossed we keep going and keep improving, and hopefully I can score a few more goals along the way as well."
Despite indifferent team performances against the likes of Hayes & Yeading United and Rushden & Diamonds, Neil Woods' men are now handily placed in fourth in the Blue Square Bet Premier table after seven matches.
"We're delighted with the start now," Connell said. "It was a reasonable start and now we've beaten Luton it looks even better.
"But it's such early days – we've got to keep focused and every game we've got to go into it with the same mentality and, with the experience and the quality we've got, hopefully we will come out on top most games."
He continued: "We've improved pretty much game on game and it's nice to put two wins together, which is the first time we've done that so far.
"We still feel there's more to come but we're delighted with the way we stuck together because Luton put us under a bit of pressure at times.
"There were some times when we played good football. There were times when we didn't play so well and we gave possession away to cheaply.
"But I thought we were very professional and showed some good stuff, and maybe on another day could have had a goal or two more.
"The manager stressed before the game how important it is to start putting back-to-back wins together so we're delighted we've done that."

“I have also been impressed with Alan Connell. He defends well and drops back to help out when required. This guy is really playing for the shirt and he is an inspiration to the rest of the team. I wish we had him last season!”

“And were loving having you here Super Al, makes a change to have a striker who looks a goal threat, and plays with such commitment, reminds me of Clive a little, although has a long way to go before he's spoken about in the same terms. UTM”
