IT was a complete privilege to witness a ma ster class from Chris Mack in difficult course angling conditions.

Mack, from Hull but a regular angler this side of the water, was fishing on the silver lake at Wold View Fisheries.

Starting at a blistering pace, Mack caught F1 carp with ease and, every time I looked across, there was elastic coming from the pole.

Next door was fishery manager, Terry Jackson, who was also catching at a good rate.

Grimsby man Simon Piggott also impressed – he was fishing at peg 16 and enjoyed his spell of dominance later in the day.

On Sunday, Grimsby man Tim Angler showed his skill with the feeder and the bomb on the gold lake (peg 18).

He was soon into his stride, and completely dominated with a total of 32lb – nearly 20lb clear of second-place Matty Benwell.

Alex Ward was third with 11.10lb, while the popular Bill Sheppard netted 11lb in fourth.

Over at Saltfleetby the matches are now on the island pond until further notice.

Market Rasen's top-flight angler, Mark Critcher, was once again on fine form – starting on peg 24, he took 35lb.

In second was Corby Hugil with 18.lb (peg 14) and the ever-present Ian Sadler starred from peg two with 15.14lb.

At Messingham Sands, with the water temperatures showing a slight increase, Grimsby's Paul Seed showed the silverfish field how to do it.

Fishing caster at 12 metres on peg 37, Seed found a willing shoal of perch ranging in size – some as large as 2lb.

He caught steadily all match for an excellent 40lb total.

Andy Pounder (peg four) totalled 46lbs on the same day at Goldthorpes' first spring league event – he also had an excelled day, particularly with the silverfish.

Sunday proved to be slightly harder on the Swan Pond as Pete Maddison top scored with 22lbs of silvers.

On Wednesday, Ken Pacey was the top man with 46lbs – he finished nearly 5lbs clear of Gary Steed in second.
