Paul heads for Arctic to compete in gruelling charity husky trek
COULD you take on the freezing wilderness of Lapland to complete a gruelling five-day husky trek in the name of charity?
The 250km challenge is one Paul Robertson will relish – less than three weeks after his 60th birthday.
Grimsby-born Paul, who now lives near Brigg, owns 16 huskies and although he has raced them in events across the country, he has never encountered conditions he expects to face inside the Arctic Circle.
He said: "The frozen wastes of Lapland are light years from green and pleasant Lincolnshire where I live with my wife Linda and our pack of Siberian huskies.

"You could have a clear day one day and a blizzard the next. Anything can happen and you have got to be prepared.
"The main thing is you have got to look after the dogs and if you fall off the sled, never let it go.
"Rather than book my place in the retirement home, I've decided to take the bull by the horns and embark on the challenge of a lifetime.
"For someone who has never been one for 'roughing it' even in the UK summer, wild camping in the Arctic Wilderness will really test me to the max!"
Gas engineer Paul will fly out to Tromso in Norway on Saturday, April 13, where he will join up with the 11 other people taking part in the trek.
For five days, he will driving a husky-pulled sled while battling temperatures plunging down to minus 25 Celsius, and camping in the wild.
The 250km journey will end at the ice hotel in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden.
Paul added: "Sometimes we all hear the call of the wild and a hankering for adventure.
"I have known a few people who have done it before and I am coming up to this funny age – so I said I would give it a go."

“I wish the guy well. Temperature should not be a problem if you have the right kit. The bit that does it is when it is wet and damp. Be firm with the dogs and let the lead Huskie rule.”
