Appeal to find owner of German Shepherd being treated at Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Grimsby

THE search is on for the owners of this lost German Shepherd – but thankfully rumours of his potential demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Canine loving police officer Sandra Brack had contacted the Grimsby Telegraph fearing that the middle-aged dog would be put to sleep if his owners were not traced by Thursday.

However, staff at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Grimsby, where he is being treated for sickness and diarrhoea, have insisted this is not the case, saying that they have already booked him a place at one of their rehoming centres if his owners do not come forward.

As we revealed in yesterday's Grimsby Telegraph, Sandra made an appeal for the dog's owners to come forward after he was found wandering the yard at Bring Logistics, in Stallingborough, on Thursday morning.

Staff there told police that the animal was hungry and frightened, and believed he had not eaten for a few days. They called the police and the council, then tried to corner and catch the dog, but he bit a man who was trying to look at the disc on its collar – although he was not seriously injured.

PC Brack, who keeps four dogs herself, said: "We've knocked on doors and visited farms nearby and got nowhere so far – but someone, somewhere, must know where this dog has come from.

"I've been tasked with trying to find the owners so if you have any clues, please come forward."

The dog was wearing a collar with a disk that said it was chipped – although when staff scanned it, they could not find one, or any other identifying information.

Staff at the Blue Cross believe the animal is someone's pet because of its friendly nature and it is thought the bite was out of character, probably because the dog felt threatened.

PC Brack added: "We are all dog-lovers here at Immingham Police Station and we are doing all we can to track the owners.

"I've even considered taking him home myself but I already have four dogs and I don't think my husband would be too happy."
