Army mates flag up Grimsby Poachers reunion event
COMRADES will fly the flag of their Lincolnshire regiment with pride during their annual reunion.
Members of the Grimsby Poachers will join together again at their fifth reunion at the Beachcomber, Humberston, in March.
The event unites those who have served in the Second Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment – known as The Poachers – of which Grimsby is the main recruitment area.
For the former servicemen, many of whom served in Northern Ireland during the infamous 1981 hunger strike, it is a chance to reminisce with people who have seen and been through similar experiences.

Corporal Tim Smith, 55, joined The Poachers in 1978. He said: "I don't think civilians realise what people like us go through and see.
"We served in Northern Ireland together during the early days, which were very bad.
"It means there is a strong bond between us all."
When the Grimsby Poachers' Reunion Committee signed up in the 1970s, the Army recruited by county.
Many signed up from Grimsby, which meant when The Poachers were deployed, it felt like "home from home" wherever they were.
Denis Watson finished his Army career as a warrant officer. He said: "No one who has served any length of time finds the same comradery in civilian life as they do in the military.
"When we joined, there were so many people from the same area serving along side each other, going out to the same places together and coming back home together, it was like home from home.
"Seeing our old friends who we haven't seen for years can be quite emotional.
"We all went through such a lot together and seeing them all again will be like turning back time for one night."
The reunion will see about 500 Poachers past and present descend on Cleethorpes and organisers have already sold about 180 tickets.
And, as the reputation of the reunion reaches all four corners of the world – with guests arriving from Canada and Trinidad – organisers hope more new faces will join the party.
The night will begin at 7pm on March 23 and includes a buffet, disco, a surprise entertainer and charity raffle to raise money for the regiment.
