Arran Brindle’s England ready for ICC Women's Cricket World Cup opener
LOUTH cricketer Arran Brindle was part of the England team which narrowly lost their final ICC Women’s World Cup warm-up match yesterday.
England lost by 13 runs against New Zealand in India.
Danielle Hazell took 5-41 – and Brindle took the important wicket of opening bat Lucy Doolan for 57 – as New Zealand were bowled out for 223.
In reply, Lydia Greenway hit 51 before she was run out, and Charlotte Edwards’s team fell narrowly short of their winning target in Mumbai.

Brindle, a teacher at Louth’s Greenwich House Independent School, contributed 18 with the bat.
England begin the defence of the trophy they won in Australia in 2009 when they take on Sri Lanka on Friday.
The Sri Lanka game is followed 48 hours later by a match against tournament hosts India, with England meeting West Indies on February 5 in their final group encounter.
The final is scheduled for February 17.
