GRIMSBY boxer Kevin Hooper made history last night by winning the Midlands Area lightweight title at the Beachcomber, Humberston.

The 28-year-old moved in line for English honours after becoming the first Grimsby fighter to bag a hat-trick of professional titles - all on home soil.

Hooper out-pointed former Area title holder Amir Unsworth, of Sleaford, by 99 to 91 after ten three-minute rounds.

By winning the English title eliminator against his stable-mate, a match that manager Carl Greaves labelled as '50-50', the Grimsby man extended his record to 13 wins from as many fights.
