YOUNG defender Charlie I'Anson has today left Grimsby Town after rejecting a new improved contract at the club.

The 18-year-old is believed to have had two offers from the club to stay and shunned both – understood to be two-year deals like fellow Youth team graduate Andi Thanoj.

Town announced today he has now been handed a free transfer and becomes the eighth first-teamer to exit the club in the past fortnight.

“His choice..... lets not dwell on players leaving, all the clubs in this league will be having a sort out with players coming and going ...... thats football for you.S&H will probably have players in mind who they want at Grimsby .....i think by now the gaffers have learned a great deal on what it takes to get out this league ..... lets hope we get the quality players to help achieve this aim.Utm!!”

“If you pay peanuts you get monkeys........ Exodus is undoubtedly the best word.....hey we can always give them another season and hide behind the excuse of rebuilding and bedding in new players...... Interesting times, no defensive cover and not a case adding a bit of quality but nearly a new squad.......”

“Can't say I'm that fussed about Charlie or the rest leaving. After all, what did he help achieve? A rather useless mid-table finish, in what is a very poor league.”

“I'Anson would have been just sat on the bench, waiting for Miller and Pearson to get injured.

How many players did we use in the 1990/91 promotion year? Wasn't it McDermott, Jobling, Futcher, Lever, Gilbert, Childs, Cockerill, Cunnington, Rees and Woods pretty much every game? Just two subs allowed then, like Paul Agnew and Tommy Watson.”

“Fair play to the lad if he wants to return to Spain to be with his family.
Disappointed but at least he cant come back to haunt us (unless we get a fee).

He had potential but if the desire isnt there to see it through-adios!”

“Sad news as like many GTFC fans I rate him highly, especially as he's only 18.

At least the club can't be accused of being tight with the cash as it was a new improved contract.

Has he been offered something better elsewhere?

I suspect S&H have many new targets lined up and we will see some action on transfer market pretty soon.

S&H's continued comment along the lines of 'doesn't fit in with how we want to play next season' is intriguing...total football Dutch-style???”

“The end of season clear out is becoming an exodus.
Worrying - it raises the spectre of a 2012 -13 season that progresses the same way as 2011 - 12.”

“I bet they (S&H) wished they had held onto Garner now. looks like we will be starting the new season with another lot of misfits that don't start playing till its too late.”
