CLEETHORPES Pier failed to sell at auction this evening.
Despite pre-sale interest from across the country, the hammer went down on a bid of £390,000 - under the reserve, which is believed to have stood at over £400,000.

“As the pier used to be about 1200 feet long, would it not be easy enough to rebuild it to that length and have it as the jewel in the cleethorpes crown? surely it would be a fantastic investment for NELC? By NELC, i mean our council, not the private enterprise leeches feeding from it.”

“The cost of a new leisure centre to replace Scartho Baths - £8.4 million leisure centre.
The price of the pier - £400,000.
The council could buy the pier, keep Scartho baths, and have £8 million in the kitty!”

“I think NE£C should dip there hands into our pot of gold and buy it. instead of outsiders trying to buy it just to turn it into another failed hotspot”
