The contest is open to babies and toddlers up to the age of 5, with £1,000 to be won, including a cash prize of £550 for the overall winner.

And among the first babies to have their photographs taken for the contest was Lily-Blue Rushby-Adams, who was taken along to Freshney Place yesterday by her mum India Adams and dad Daniel Rushby.

India, 17, of Grimsby, said: "We were walking past and saw the photo booth set-up and thought it would be a good way to get some nice photographs of her.

"Everybody always says she's gorgeous and this is a good way for us to show her off.

"We'll definitely be voting for her to win."

Daniel, 19, said: "It will be nice for her to be able to look back on the photographs when she's older."

As reported, the winner in each of the four age categories will win £150 and a print of their photo, while the first 500 entrants will receive free entry to Pleasure Island, in Cleethorpes (excluding May 27).

Professional photographs are being taken outside BHS, in Freshney Place, every day until March 16, and will appear in a special Grimsby Telegraph supplement on Thursday, April 18.

The top 80 entrants will be decided by a public vote, and a panel of judges will then decide the winner in each category and the overall 2013 Baby And Toddler Of The Year.

Also hoping her little ones will impress the judges is Chelsea Overend, 21, of Grimsby, who took daughters Ria-Mae, 2, and Lillybelle, nine months, along to have their photographs taken.

Chelsea said: "I really want some nice photographs of them both so I thought I would enter them. I think the competition is a really nice idea and I'll be voting for them to win when the supplement comes out."

Manning the stand was Laura Sands-Dadd, of Grimsby, who said: "We had a queue when we opened and it always gets busier as the competition goes on. I love seeing what all the babies and toddlers are wearing and looking at the photographs being taken."
