Balls finds the net at Cleethorpes Country Park open match
THERE was an excellent turnout for an open match at Cleethorpes Country Park on Bank Holiday Monday.
At the start it was a little windy and this made it difficult on the pole and also for casting from some of the pegs.

Mick Balls put on a magnificent show of pole fishing to put in his keep net 16lb of roach.
On the other side of the lake Sam Smith found it was slow on the tip.
In the days leading up to the match there had been tremendous catches of bream and some had been catching double-figured carp among the bream.
Smith did get the fish eventually and had 12.9lbs to seal second place. Third was Dave Smith with 10.11lb.
The venue is worth a try, especially for pleasure anglers, either on the float for the roach or on the feeder for the larger fish.
There were matches all over last week with it being bank holiday.
Wold View Fisheries was especially busy and there has been a match on the gold pond every day from last Saturday and fishing got better each day.
On Saturday top Grimsby angler Tony Woods was in peg seven and he managed to find the bigger fish. One nice specimen of 12.12lbs was his biggest and he also lost a bigger fish as well.
Woods finished with 35.8lbs, next in was Simon Fields with 30lbs and Dave Mountford was third with 28.8lbs.
On the Sunday Woods drew the same peg but this time the fish had moved in ready for a feast and he had double the weight of the day before and finished up with 73.8lbs. Second was Ted Burks, on peg 35, with 60lbs. Third again was Mountford, on peg 16, with 49.8lbs.
Monday was a right battle between Tim Chapman and Ted Burkes on pegs 21 and 24. Both caught from the off, but Chapman, with 73.1lbs, just managed to nudge in front of Burkes, with 69.4lbs. Third was Simon Fields with 42.4lbs.
Tuesday was the turn of the veterans and 20 pegs were producing again. Ian Cook was top man with 64lbs, John Isted second with 56.9lbs and Kev Murphy, 34.4lbs.
There was good turnout on Wednesday. Grimsby angler Denis Patterson had a great day, catching around 30 carp on the pole for a total weight of 86.6lbs on peg 19.
Wood was on peg 26 and he managed to find the fish and grabbed second with 82.6lbs. Third – and it was nice to see him taking some money again – was Graham Garrod. He was on peg 34 and finished up with 64lbs.

HUNTERS LODGE
Willows: Biggest fish of week was caught by Jake Haywood, 14, from Broughton, who banked a lovely 23lb 6oz common carp caught on Dynamite chocolate malt boilies. Plenty of other fish getting caught. Best tip is to try to locate feeding fish because location is very important at moment.
Kestrel: Fished a little slower this week but most caught was good mid doubles, fishing over a bed of particles or boilies producing some good fish.
Kingfisher: Fishing was a little up and down this week. On days it fished there was good nets of mixed fish up to 25lb+, maggot or pellet still being best choice of bait.
Heron: Midweek produced some really good catches to groundbait feeders. Sport got a lot harder as the weather turned for the weekend fishing. Maggot up in the water for roach or groundbait feeder to island for the bream are best tactics.
