Barton miss out on full haul amid close title chase

MID-table Cleethorpes 2nds lost by five wickets at title-chasing Scunthorpe Town in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday.

Scunthorpe are among the five closely grouped teams still in with a chance of winning the championship.

The others being Nettleham, Barton Town, Alford and Caistor.

Alford slipped to a 46-run defeat in a low-scoring game at Cherry Willingham.

Barton overcame Messingham by five wickets but failed to secure maximum points.

Nettleham bowled South Kelsey out for only 60 on their way to a five-wicket success which added to the Wolds villagers' concerns over relegation.

In division one, leaders Market Rasen won by four wickets against Appleby-Frodingham 2nds, mid-table Holton-le-Clay lost by 32 runs to Bracebridge Heath 2nds, who are in the hunt for promotion, while Louth 2nds distanced themselves from the drop zone with an important five-wicket success at Outcasts.

In division two, there was disappointment for promotion hopefuls Keelby.

They lost at home to lowly Washingborough, whose success sent Grimsby Town 2nds, who were without a fixture, to the foot of the table. Caistor 2nds completed their season with a home defeat at the hands of leaders Scunthorpe Town 2nds.

In division three, Grimsby team Laportes kept alive hopes of a late promotion push.

They secured a convincing six-wicket victory at Broughton 2nds.

But Alford 2nds lost at home to Haxey 2nds.

While bottom side Clee 4ths missed out by 11 runs to Outcasts 2nds.

In division four, Market Rasen 2nds secured the championship with a home win over Hykeham.

Keelby 2nds were beaten by bottom side Scothern 2nds.

Immingham Blossom Way remain in the re-election zone after losing at Holton-le-Clay 2nds.

Caistor 3rds had one of the day's most emphatic triumphs.

They played well to see off Scunthorpe Town 3rds by 115 runs.
