FORMER Grimsby Town captain Ryan Bennett has been called up to the standby list for Great Britain's Olympic football team.

The 22-year-old, who left Blundell Park for £½-million in 2009 after more than 100 senior appearances, has been called up by Stuart Pearce alongside Adam Johnson, Jordan Rhodes and Alex McCarthy.

The Mariners are set to receive a financial windfall following Bennett's £3m transfer to Premier League Norwich last season.

The official squad lists were confirmed by FIFA last week, and each country has put four players on stand-by ahead of the Games, which get under way later this month.
