Big Cod match on the horizon
SOME big cod have been caught over the last week – when the weather conditions have been right.
Unfortunately, the recent high winds put paid to many anglers' hopes of going out.
-

Grimsby-area angler Jim McClernon went out the other week and had several nice cod, the biggest being 14lb 7oz.
Other anglers have also had big doubles when they have been able to get out.

It does not seem five minutes since the last big cod match in the River Humber – well it is upon us once again on February 24.
Organised by the Humber Cruising Association, there is once again a guaranteed £1,000 first prize. Anglers have to book in with Chris Banks from the HCA.
Humber Sea Angling Club members were in action last week and 11 hardened rod men were in action at the Woods, Stallingborough.
All the anglers set-up, baited-up and planned their assault on the Humber.
They plotted their strategies with a precision and an enthusiasm worthy of a national final.
The start of the match featured a light, westerly wind and things looked promising – although a bit cold.
However at the weigh-in, four cards had fish on them, seven did not – with only five fish caught in total.
In first place with one dab for 12oz was Adie Cooper, ahead of Jack Barlow, who caught two fish for 8oz.
Joint third were Jon Gore and Steve Robinson with 8oz.
The next match on the Humber is tomorrow, fishing at the Courtaulds Straight from 3.45pm-7.45pm. Meet at the barrier from 2.30pm
