GRIMSBY Town are top of the Blue Square Bet Premier League tonight after beating Braintree 3-0 at Blundell Park.

The Mariners gained revenge for last season's 5-0 thumping at the hands of the same opponents.

  1. Grimsby Town vs Braintree Town

Ross Hannah and Craig Disley scored either side of half-time to give Town a comfortable lead and Hannah made sure of victory with his second after 65 minutes.

The win sees Town move above Newport on goal difference.

“Aw Dexxx you big meanie, spoiling Grimsby's 5 minutes at the top of the league by bringing reality into it.

However, congratulations to pontoonergy for almost managing to spell UTM correctly. That was a valiant effort on your part. Well done.”

“I thought Andy Cook was different class again on saturday, good hold up play which allowed midfield to gain the vital extra yards and get with him.
His play over the past few weeks since hannah's arrival, has being great and his performance on saturday deserved a goal.
Well done Andy keep up the good work, and if you carry on in this vain the goals will flow!! you should borrow a pair of rossy hannahs "lucky boots".”

“Great to see a centre forward who can hold the ball up and win the ariel battle, Cook looks a different player now he's settled in and found some confidence, I'm afraid 'running your socks off' isn't quite enough in professional football, a decent performance and some good performances but having a genuine target man, who's fit strong and a nuisance helps the rest of the side play from there. Think Niven needs to play against the better sides but we picked a side to break a defensive team down on Saturday so well done the managers for being so positive, and well done Andy Cook on another fine performance, and well done town for reaching the summit, long way to go, but I'm hopeful we can stay in and around where we are now and get our club back to where it belongs (League 1).
