WATER-way to save money!

The hosepipe ban may have been lifted today, but the green-thinking team at Cleethorpes In Bloom will be pressing ahead with their contingency plans regardless.

The group's chairman, Bob Callison, said that when the ban was imposed, the group had teamed up with its sponsor, building firm Carr and Carr, and made arrangements to pump "brown" water out of Chapman's Pond to keep the resort's displays blooming. And now, even though Anglian Water has announced the ban is no longer in place, they plan to continue the arrangement.

He said: "We are still going to go on extracting water from Chapman's Pond as we don't have to pay for it – we had to pay commercial rates to Anglian Water – and it is more environmentally sound, too."

As reported on www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk, a spokesman for Anglian Water said water levels in rivers and underground aquifers, which had been decimated by a two-year drought, had been replenished following unusually heavy rain since April.

However, while the hosepipe ban has been lifted, Paul Valleley, the firm's director of services, urged customers to continue to use water wisely.
