Grimsby In Bloom celebrate year of success at awards ceremony
IT'S been a golden year for Grimsby In Bloom – and there was more success to celebrate.
Grimsby In Bloom held their annual awards ceremony at Abby's, on Abbeygate, in Grimsby, giving out prizes to members of the community who helped Grimsby win its first gold in the summer.

Chairman Elaine Atkinson said: "It's been a great year and this is a chance for all of us on the committee to get to know and thank all of those members of the community who were involved. Without every single one of these people, we wouldn't have done nearly as well.
"There were some brilliant winners, but next year we want even more entries so tonight is also a chance for us to spread the word that we want more members. If we continue to improve, maybe next year we will retain our gold and win our category."

The awards were simplified this year into five categories: best school garden, community garden project, place of worship, street and public house or hotel, group dwelling and front garden or container. There were also special trophies in the voluntary and domestic categories, a boar's head given as the chairman's award and the announcement of the winner of the photographic competition, voted for by more than 400 members of the public.
David Ruffles, who won an award for the best front garden, a trophy in the domestic category and the boar's head, said it was "a great way to top off an amazing year".
He added: "This was only my first year of being involved and it has been brilliant. I retired last week so I can put even more into it next year."
Photography competition winner Ted Ford, 84, said: "It's a great feeling to have won and be invited along, tonight. I'm a retired builder and I love all kinds of art, but this is my first prize for photography."
Grimsby In Bloom vice chairman Liz Ruffles said: "It has been great to have the chance to show our appreciation for everything people have done this year. The judges can mark you down for the smallest things and it's the attention to the final details – cigarette butts on the floor, marks on the benches, weeds in the gutters – which everyone has looked out for together that has won us the gold."
