Reg Percival, the event organiser at Caistor Town CC, urged people to act quickly if they want to grab a ticket.

He said: “To secure Geoff is a great coup for the club.

“We are expecting a strong demand for tickets and would recommend people purchase them as early as possible.”

Miller, a renowned speaker at dinner shows, spent 20 years on the professional cricket circuit and travelled to all the major Test-playing countries.

For England, he played in 34 Tests, 25 One Day Internationals and seven overseas tours. He scored more than 14,000 runs.

He faced the likes of Michael Holding and Dennis Lillee, and bowled at Viv Richards and Ian Botham.

However, he is modest about his abilities as a player.

He said: “I was a comparatively boring bread and butter cricketer, selected in the team to allow all the brilliant flair players to perform with freedom.”

Apart from his cricket prowess, Miller’s greatest attribute was his ability to reduce his team-mates to stitches using his dry northern humour – which he now brings to the after-dinner speaking stage.

Tickets are priced at £37 per person, or £345 for a table of ten. The price includes a three-course dinner. The dress code is smart – jacket and tie. To purchase a ticket, contact Reg Percival on 07801 046040 or email reginald.percival@which.net
