“Agreed. Parents aren't perfect and neither are the kids, and children will by nature go against what their parents have asked at some point. But if you actively allow your child to play on the road then don't expect a wave of public sympathy when they are hit by a car, when you'd have to be deaf dumb and blind to not know what the traffic is like and what the risks are. By the same token, some parents don't care where their kids are as long as they are out from under their feet!
why is there always someone who can't have a reasonable debate without resorting to calling people clowns, idiots, and worse...?!
@mallysmith it's "you're all clowns" not "your all.." and theres only one clown on david street and he drives a beige noddy car ;o)”

“Roads are for cars, NOT for playing on.
Children do not acquire true road sense until the age of 11, some a bit older if they are ferried everywhere in the car and never walk anywhere to practice the skills needed to cross the road.
David Street is near Clee Fields and Peoples' Park, depending which end you live, and if you live in the middle you have a choice. So, instead of chucking your kids outside and sitting watching mindless daytime TV with your fags and cans of lager try getting out of the house and actually taking them to our green spaces and playing with them. Otherwise, what's the point of having them?!”

“And they won't complain about them on the front? Or worry about them getting hit by cars? I'd rather hear kids playing safely and happily in their front garden than the screeching breaks and screams and cries and ambulance sirens, personally.”

“I don't agree that children should be playing in the street. As is mentioned there's lots of parks around here - and gardens (and their friends gardens if their own is not suitable).
I live around the David Bury's end of Heneage Road and there's the very busy Pasture St near by. During the holidays and weekends some of the houses here just open their doors and chuck the kids out onto the front, a couple of the kids are younger than 5. They never look out on them or check if they're alright unless it's to scream abuse at the cars who'd turned into the corner just as the kids had decided to run out in front of them and have to slam their breaks on.
Children don't have the road sense needed, it won't be much longer until there's more accidents.”

“to mally no parent is perfect your right, but houses do have gardens and there are numerous parks around this area, my point is the child is 5 years old, children at that age do not have very good road safety knowledge and therefor should not be playing ball in streets.Streets are not a safe place we all no this.
the cars that are parked down streets are blindspots for children.
roads are dangerous enough without people playing on them.
And Jules my comment on the flats is also aimd at safety of children and already overcrowding of cars parked.
I also agree people should walk more and use cars less but this will never change.”

“Well said MallySmith99
@missMe - Wouldn't say you are that mature reading the comments you made on the story about the flats for the disabled in Heneage Road. Not in my back yard then for you is it??
Maybe if you are such a good Mother, you could invite all the other children in the street to play ball with you and your children in YOUR garden!!!”
