Brocklesby and South Wold Hunts hold meetings despite weather

HUNTSMEN and women braved icy conditions to put on meetings for supporters.

While most hunts around the UK cancelled traditional Boxing Day gatherings because of the bad weather, both Brocklesby Hunt and South Wold Hunt held meetings.

At Brocklesby's Point-to-Point course, master of hounds John Goode was unable to attend as he had dislocated his elbow in a riding accident.

Will Hanson stepped in and hundreds of people watched the horses and hounds parade.

The centuries-old tradition was led by the Earl of Yarborough, and it has been taking place on his family's estate for more than 400 years.

Harry Lidgett, 80, of Keelby, said: "It's great to watch the skills of the huntsmen, some people can't manage one hound never mind 30 or 40.

"This really is old England; it's brilliant."
