A PICTURE paints a thousand words.

However, Grimsby In Bloom still had plenty to say about the hugely successful Grimsby In Bloom photography competition, the winner of which will be decided this week.

Organiser Trevor Harrison praised the contest, which encouraged people to send photos of the best outdoor spots in North East Lincolnshire – and they snapped some blooming lovely places.

A shortlist of 22 entries was then put on display in Freshney Place last week, so that the public could vote for the winner – and more than 400 people voted for their favourite.

Mr Harrison said: "It has been an absolutely brilliant competition with some beautiful pictures and great feedback from the public.

"This is the first year we have had a public vote so it's been really nice to engage with the people for whom we are trying to make the area look better and see what they thought. We have even had a few people sign up as volunteers so it's been a really positive few days."

The top three winners – who stand to win Freshney Place shopping vouchers – worth £30, £20 and £15 – will contacted this week, but not where they have placed.

They will then be invited to the Grimsby In Bloom annual awards ceremony, on Tuesday, October 9, at Abbeys Bistro and Wine Bar, Grimsby, to receive their prize, and their photo will be displayed again in Freshney Place. Michelle Chevins, marketing assistant for Freshney Place shopping centre said: "We are always proud to support local initiatives, especially ones which celebrate our town looking beautiful.

"I hope the winners of the Grimsby In Bloom photography competition enjoy spending their gift vouchers here – and well done to all the entrants, there really were some beautiful pictures this year."
