JENNY Burt won a tense sudden death play-off to clinch the ladies Hauxwell competition title at Elsham.

Amid windy conditions and fast-running greens, Burt, the silver division winner with a score of net 68, took on Carol Pigdon, who triumphed in the bronze section with a net 72.

The knock-out started on the 10th. Both ladies hit good drives, but Pigdon hit a nervous second shot and then her fourth effort landed in a greenside bunker.

Burt made the green in three, however, and two-putted to win the competition.

Meanwhile, there was a full turnout for the Seniors Open, played in good weather conditions.

An Ashby Decoy pairing won the better-ball Stableford on 42 points.

They beat Elsham duo Dave Farren and John Turner on a count-back of the last nine holes.

Elsham's Peter Beel was nearest the pin in two shots on the 18th.

David Whitehand was a clear winner when the men's section held a Stableford for the Charles Smith Trophy. He scored 40 points, reducing his handicap to 16.
