Butcher told PVC windows are 'out of character', despite several others in village
BINBROOK residents have vowed to back the village's veteran butcher in his fight to keep his new PVC windows.
Frank Preston, who has been trading from his store in the village for 42 years, has been told be east Lindsey District Council's planning department that he will have to rip out all 10 of the windows he has fitted to his house.

Officers say the new additions are "out of character" with the village, as the former chapel sits within a conservation area.
However, he claims a number of neighbouring businesses and homes already have PVC windows fitted, and that the ruling is unfair.
"The Chinese takeaway put them in after they won an appeal and private houses have been granted permission retrospectively after fitting them, but my application kept getting refused so 15 months ago I put them in without planning approval.
"I could not believe it when I got a letter saying take them out. They said it was out of character with the village."
He added that the people of the village were "right behind" him and his wife Beverley – who has been the parish council's clerk for 30 years.
He said: "A petition is being got up to support me."

“The Windows that were removed were not the original chapel windows anyway ,they were installed when the building was converted into a house and shop, and the PVC windows have the same general appearence, except they are much better insulated.Way to go Frank! For those that try to put you down. Tell them, as the rock band (The Who) would say :-" Why don't you all just ...f...f...f...f...fade away. Hope you all die before I grow old.”

“Syncopator,
You sound like 'Pensioner.' I wonder....?
Any way, Mr. Preston is not asking for YOUR sympathy, he is asking the council to treat him fairly and the same as other's in the village that have fitted double glazing.”

“"In your words" to the right of the photograph states that "Instead of appealing the decision or investigating alternatives with us, they have gone ahead with their plans anyway ... "
Whether or not you agree with the council's decision is irrelevant.
Mr. Preston's actions can only be described as pig-headedness and I have no sympathy for him.”

“Brian,
You say, "Rules are rules. You cannot cherry pick the ones you don't like."
Reading the story, it seems that some have done just that!
Won't the double glazing make the shop look better, safer and and harder to break?”

“How backward can they get? I in Canada have installed triple glazed high R factor PVC windows in my house.(all new houses come with them) They require no maintenance, no paint , & avoid dangerous mildew. They are the only way to go.”

“Simple answer, tell East Lindsey District Council that if they want the windows out, to take them out themselves. The silence will be deafening....”

“Never heard anything so ridiculous! Then again we are talking about "Local Council" decisions. I think Mr Preston should be well within his rights to have new windows fitted after trading for 42 years from this store. I bet if it was a health and safety issue then the local council would probably see it in a different way and make him change the windows. "Out of character with the village"? So were Imperial Consolidated Finance but they were still allowed to trade? No problems when Lincoln Fraser and his partner wanted to make alterations with the buildings that they occupied for so long. Good luck with your petition Mr Preston you deserve to keep what you have worked for, for so long.”
