With retail experts predicting that the Great British high street could soon become a thing of the past unless something is done to preserve it, the message from local business leaders is clear – “use us or lose us.”

That is why the Grimsby Telegraph has teamed up with the Lincolnshire branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to launch Your Life: Buy Local – a campaign to show you how making small changes to your spending habits can help save the high street and put more money back into the local economy.

As part of the campaign, we have launched the Buy Local loyalty card, which local shops and traders, like the one featured here, are signing up to in order to give you discounts until the end of the year, to encourage people to shop locally.

A POPULAR garden centre is giving local customers a blooming brilliant Buy Local deal.

Brigg Garden Centre is offering a saving of £5 against a spend of £30 or more and £30 off a spend of £150 and over to all loyalty card holders until March 31.

As reported, the Grimsby Telegraph's Buy Local campaign is designed to support local firms by encouraging you to think about where you spend your money.

To encourage more people to shop locally, the Telegraph has teamed up with businesses from across the region to launch the Buy Local loyalty card – and Brigg Garden Centre is one of dozens of firms to sign up.

The popular centre sells a wide and varied range of plants, seeds and bulbs as well as garden furniture, accessories and homeware.

It also boasts the 450-seat Vineyard Restaurant, which serves a wide menu, ranging from snacks and drinks to homemade daily specials, cakes and treats, although purchases from here are not included in the offer.

Ian Hutchinson, spokesperson for the centre, said that business was blossoming thanks to the Buy Local campaign.

He said: "We joined Buy Local back in November with a 15 per cent off Christmas offer.

"We had a great response with most customers taking advantage of the offer and spending money on larger purchases such as Christmas trees.

"Buy Local is a great platform for us to offer the consumer some great offers and to enable us to gain more exposure through the local press.

"This next offer is set to last two months and follows on from a successful in-house initiative we put in place over Christmas.

"We offer it now because it's an ideal time to start buying a few things in preparation for the new season."

The terms and conditions are: valid from now until Saturday, March 31; not to be used in conjunction with any other offer, voucher or promotion; excludes the Vineyard Restaurant and Coffee Haven and franchises.
