With retail experts predicting that the Great British high street could soon become a thing of the past unless something is done to preserve it, the message from local business leaders is clear – “use us or lose us.”

That is why the Grimsby Telegraph has teamed up with the Lincolnshire branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to launch Your Life: Buy Local – a campaign to show you how making small changes to your spending habits can help save the high street and put more money back into the local economy.

As part of the campaign, we have launched the Buy Local loyalty card, which local shops and traders, like the one featured here, are signing up to in order to give you discounts until the end of the year, to encourage people to shop locally.

BUILT on the success of an online shop, IMS Floor Store is a cut above the rest with a vast selection of rugs to suit any home.

The newly refurbished store is offering Buy Local loyalty cardholders ten per cent off all rugs over £60.

The family-run business in Grimsby's Freeman Street, stocks 4,000 quality rugs in 350 designs and the UK's largest carpet runner selection to complement any hallway or staircase.

IMS Floor Store also offers a selection of carpets, laminate and vinyl flooring, as well as rugs in three different sizes.

And it has now joined our Buy Local scheme, set up to encourage people to spend their money in local, independent stores where possible in return for offers and discounts.

Myles Shaw, 26, is managing director of IMS Floor Store and Carpet Runners UK, which began two years ago online.

"The success of our online business and requirement for additional space to meet the high demand for our products, has resulted in the purchase of the 25,000 sq ft property," he said.

"Our manager and his team offer a friendly customer service with the experience to help you choose the perfect rug, runner or flooring for you home.

"We are focused on customer service and ensure every customer is 100 per cent satisfied. We buy large stocks direct from the manufacturers and pass this saving direct to the customer.

"It is important to buy local and to support areas such as Freeman Street.

"And local stores such as ours are solely dependent on local people buying locally.

"Our spacious store has been designed and fitted with purpose-built displays to ensure we have the best choice and display in the area; guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

"The property, which had previously been occupied by Mad Harry's Discount Store, had remained closed for several years.

"We purchased the property in January and after a major investment and refurbishment, it opened this May."

The newly opened flooring store has rugs to suit all decors – traditional, modern, animal themed, plain and shaggy – including a full range of Disney children's rugs.

They also offer a fitting and estimating service, as well as excellent customer service skills.
