Buy Local: Steel yourself for top offers
With retail experts predicting that the Great British high street could soon become a thing of the past unless something is done to preserve it, the message from local business leaders is clear – “use us or lose us.”
That is why the Grimsby Telegraph has teamed up with the Lincolnshire branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to launch Your Life: Buy Local – a campaign to show you how making small changes to your spending habits can help save the high street and put more money back into the local economy.
As part of the campaign, we have launched the Buy Local loyalty card, which local shops and traders, like the one featured here, are signing up to in order to give you discounts until the end of the year, to encourage people to shop locally.
THIS is the real, steel deal!

One of the longest-running domestic gate and railing firms in the town is now offering Buy Local card holders a "steel reinforced deal".
Arne Fabrications Ltd, situated at the rear of Elm Road, Cleethorpes, is giving a ten per cent reduction on all deals under £500.
Contracts between £500 and £1,000 will result in a £50 cashback offer, or £50 vouchers for either M&S or Asda.
Customers with orders over £1,000 can look forward to £100 cashback or £100 vouchers to spend at M&S or Asda.
The firm has been fabricating and installing bespoke ornamental gates, railings, security fencing, palisade fencing and security grills for more than 20 years to generations of returning and new customers alike.
Stuart Vick has been running the business for three years and has developed it further to become a limited company in the last 12 months.
He said: "We are one of the longest-established domestic fabrication firms in the town, in some streets as many as nine out of ten gates and fences have been made and installed by ourselves."
The fabrication company has benefited from recommendations from satisfied customers.
He said: "Nearly all our business is referrals.
"I believe this is due to our personal service; we take the time to listen to customers and strive to provide unique solutions that fit both their requirements and budgets.
"I am really pleased with the feedback we receive and this is highlighted by the number of returning customers who come back to us when they move house or simply require maintenance or resprays. No job is too small."
The Buy Local campaign, launched by the Grimsby Telegraph last year to encourage readers to spend their money with local, independent traders where possible in return for discounts, along with his ethos to provide the best deal for his customers, attracted Stuart as the perfect way to promote his business.
And it supports Stuart's belief that buying local is hugely important.
"If you get a problem when using a firm outside of the town they often can't be bothered to fix it because it's not worth them travelling back," he said.
"If you use a local firm, they are right on your doorstep and easy to get hold of."
Arne Fabrications produces a range of bespoke ornamental gates, railings, palisade and security fencing as well as light fabrications and a range of maintenance options, including resprays, to ensure that their products are well-presented and the customers are happy.
