THIS week's Then And Now subject shows Scartho Road, looking south from Edge Avenue on the left, towards the nucleus of the parish.

The village of Scartho was not absorbed into the borough of Grimsby until 1927, which is probably not long before the original view shown was taken, which was in a more civilised era of scant private vehicle ownership.

It is hard nowadays to conceive of a main artery such as Scartho Road being devoid of so much traffic.

Nevertheless, the road continues to possess much of its original charm.
