TWO swimmers from Cleethorpes and District Swimming Club took part in the annual Midland Masters Championships at Royal Leamington Spa.

With the bad weather preventing them competing earlier in the year, this was their first competition since December.

Neither Andrew Carr nor Andrew Gristwood swam to their best, but they are hoping it is a stepping stone on their way to the National Long Course Championships at Glasgow in June.

Former international Carr, competing in the 40-44 age group, secured gold in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and 200m and 400m individual medley. The latter was his best swim of the weekend.

He also swam well to secure bronze in the 200m backstroke.

His training partner, Gristwood, who competes in the 45-49 years section, secured silver medals in the 400m freestyle and individual medley and 200m butterfly.

He also took bronze in the 100m and 200m freestyle, and 200m breastroke.

Their recent medley training regime is having some success as his best result was also in the 400m individual medley.
