POLICE are looking for a young man with a large tattoo on his shoulder and arm as part of an investigation into the destruction of the Boy With The Leaking Boot statue.

After watching the CCTV of two "drunken young men" jumping into the Princess Diana Of Wales memorial pond on Kingsway they have uncovered more clues to their identity.

  1. The larger man jumps in the pond and poses next to the statue.

As reported, the statue was smashed for the second time in eight months just days before the Britain In Bloom judges come to the resort.

CCTV footage – which can be viewed in full below in order to help identify the culprits – shows one of the vandals strip off all his clothes and start swimming around in the pond while his friend took photographs.

The one taking photographs then jumps in and pushes the boy over.

Before doing so he also uncovers what appears to be a large tattoo on his right arm and shoulder.

Cleethorpes In Bloom chairman Bob Callison said: "We are hopeful we will find him."

The incident sparked angry Grimsby Telegraph readers to visit the thisisgrimsby website and comment.

Smoker wrote: "They should be made to fully repay the cost of the damage that they did.

"It seems that the courts are scared to award damage costs against vandals – 100 hours community service is not the same thing as making them pay."

And jack_knife said: "When they are caught, as well as being made to pay the full cost of repair and installing the boy, they should be ordered to stand in their underpants in the middle of the pond on an hour in, half an hour out, between 9am and 5pm, for a full week."

    “nogoarea,

According to to-days paper, the answer is "NO.

Perhaps they are "not local" and have staggered back to whence they came, - Yorkyland?”

“lovely bit of HI-DEF video there , you can barely make out they have a head let alone recognize their faces. the statue is only ever broken at night so why did they install a colour camera instead of a high-resolution b&w one which would work a lot better at night.
    what a waste of money”

“On pic one he looks as though he wants a full time job posing as a Leaking boy as i'm sure he would attract tourists from all over the world and he would look great sprayed in a luminous gold colour to attract the nightly party poopers. shame about his willy though as that the only thing that lets him down. lol”

    “makeamark,

I suggested that the last time the 'boy' was vandalised. If it had been done then, we would not be reading about this now!

Greywolf, I've also suggested piranhas, on another thread on this subject, when someone suggested alligators.

sgbarker, I like the idea of dye in the water, indelible bright PURPLE, PINK or YELLOW?”

What and hope it will just go away, it might seem like a harmless prank to some but it's you and me that's picking up the repair bill don't you know.”
