Alan Connell says he'll prove he is 'too good' for the Conference
STRIKER Alan Connell says nothing would please him more than being able to prove to Grimsby Town fans that he is 'too good' for the Conference.
The ex-Bournemouth forward put in another impressive display in the Mariners' 4-2 Lincolnshire Senior Cup semi-final victory against Chris Sutton's Lincoln City at Blundell Park last night.

Town will now play Scunthorpe United in the final at Glanford Park on Tuesday.
Connell headed home trialist Dwayne Samuels' cross for his second goal in a Town shirt – and is already a favourite among the Pontoon faithful.
The Mariners beat the League Two Imps to Connell's signature – but he says it's up to him to prove he has the ability to feature in the Football League.
Connell said: "It's up to me to prove that I'm 'too good' for the Conference this season.
"I've got to prove that to myself, my team-mates and the supporters.
"That's what it's about. Every season you try to improve and prove yourself to people.
"I'll give it my best shot and nothing will give me greater satisfaction than doing that this season and helping the club get back up."
Neil Woods' side smashed four goals past a youthful Lincoln side on a wet Blundell Park turf that assisted quick, passing football.
Peter Bore, Scott Garner and Michael Cummins also found the net with Gavin McCallum scoring twice for the visitors – all six goals coming inside the first 45 minutes.
Connell says he is relishing the quick-passing style of football Woods is promoting at the club.
He went on: "It was one of the main reasons why I joined the club.
"The manager made it clear that's how he wanted the team to play. I'm really enjoying it.
"We're going to have to mix it up this season, but it's good that we are capable of playing that way.
"He (Woods) wants us to play football and has made it clear he won't sign players who can't the play the game the way he wants us to.
"I feel we've got the players to do that, but I also think we've got the characters to dig in and grind out results too – which could be very important this year.
"It was a bit strange in the first-half, it seemed there was a goal with every attack.
"But I thought some of our passing and movement was very good. We kept the ball, had purpose and attacked with pace.
"There's still work to do regarding organisational stuff – but that's starting to come together.
"We're getting there, slowly but surely."

“Its fair to say Lincoln were a poor side last year and wasnt a million miles away from us. even after 25 games without a win!! Still cant get over the cast iron last minute penalty we didnt get at BP. The player superman'ed the ball to stop a cross the ref must have been blind”

“Louthredimp, Lincoln
Don't use that old excuse about you only fielding a YOUNG side ours was mainly youth and trialists plus new lads our goalkeeper bless him he is that young he as not started shaving yet but he was still to good for you the 2 goals you got gifted by our slack defending.
We will swap places with next season as Sutton will take you down.UTM”

“louthredimp
if jamie clapham, ian pearce and paul musselwhite qualify for a youth team, someone has been fiddling the figures!
you had delroy facey and maccalum upfront + clark keltie.
that must be close to your first team. i wouldnt overly confident yourself.”

“I knew Alan would start to not only score goals, but be a play maker. I viewed the highlights, and on a number of occasions, he passed unselfishly to other players in front of goal. He passes were weighted perfectly. I would like to see more of the players anticipate play and move into space, but there was some intelligent play which was very encouraging. Well done team and good luck Tuesday night. It will do wonders for your confidence if you could win silverware before the season starts. UTM!”
