Teachers 'cyber-bullied' at Caistor school
A NUMBER of pupils at a Caistor school have been suspended or expelled following claims they have been "cyber-bullying" teachers.
Jeremy Newnham, the headteacher of Caistor Yarborough School, said he would not confirm how many pupils were involved, but said he had taken the action after viewing comments made on social networking site Facebook.

It is believed one person commenting on the site had advocated "stabbing" Mr Newnham.
A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police has confirmed the force has launched an investigation into the matter.
It is thought the site was set up following action taken by staff after a pupil-led protest over rules governing the wearing of make-up, which is believed to have seen a number of students refuse to return to lessons from the school yard.
The school's handbook bans makeup – a rule the headteacher said has always been in place.
Mr Newnham said: "I can confirm that a small group of students have been excluded, a minority permanently, following issues surrounding harassment and defamation of staff.
"We are speaking with the parents of the students involved to move forward."

“I am from a school very nearby the Yarborough school and this situation has been completely blown out of proportion. The students have had no say in the matter. The telegraph should publish their views. And why would Mr Newnham bring down the reputation on his own school? For sympathy? He's trying to make himself look better, but this just makes the students look bad. Therefore this school itself is being portrayed as a school full of 'yobs' and no new students will join. I have known many people leave the Yarborough school with excellent grades and have gone on to Cambridge and Oxford universities. This whole thing is ridiculous. Students think that Mr Newnham is unapproachable and much preferred their old headmaster, who was more friendly, approachable and considerate. Why doesn't Mr Newnham try to make peace with his students rather than making them all fear him? But one thing is for certain and that is that Caistor Yarborough is an excellent school whose name is being dragged through the mud.”

“I think there's far too much speculation over rumour. Please get the opinions of all sides publicised. Lacking genuine information imho.”

“¿Teachers 'cyber-bullied' at Caistor school¿ a wild headline, which I feel is something of a misnomer. How is that someone can be 'cyber-bullied' if it¿s wide open and in the public realm, there are more than one options to stem this. Namely report for abuse etc etc etc.
However, back to the point, having only heard one side of the story, I feel the Head teacher is either a: stopping this early before it gets out of hand, or b: as I suspect, doing it because he can. One of the other things I¿ve noticed it that the term Teachers is used, but cannot find the reference to anyone else other than the Head Teacher. Is this a chance for the story to show that others have been bullied? And there is also the imbalance, no student point of view has been aired in this debate, well not debate as it¿s all very one sided.
For balance, the student¿s need to have their say, they also need to see democracy at work. That being the cut and thrust of intellectual argument, rather than totalitarian opinion.”

“Agreed, I'd like to hear the full story as well. What did the children report?”

“I'd like to hear from some of the children involved, this doesn't appear to be the full story by any means.”

“What exactly were the comments on Facebook? It's easy to accuse and blame, without giving the exact information, what the whole thing is about.”

“Is this the whole story? Perhaps not, anyone considered that?”

“To all people laughing and joking at the students of CYS commenting on here, have you stopped to think for a moment that you are now "cyber-bullying" them and are no better than the apparent "cyber-bullies". Thought not, you can say the damage has already been done etc, but you were all young once and cannot say that you have never put a foot out of line in your life. Kids make mistakes and should have been sat down in an assembly and told the next student would face exclusion or an appropriate sanction. The head has got it wrong excluding whichever students he wants to.”

“Exactly, it is no better. Which is why the punishment far outweighs the crime. If we see something that bothers us and we have the ability to put our point across, we do it. They just did it like children. Oh what a surprise, they are children”
