Calls to urgently fill pothole hazards in Humberston parking area
A HAZARDOUS parking area in Humberston must be resurfaced urgently – before somebody else falls and breaks their leg.
That is the demand from residents and councillors, who are angry that the potholed strip of land near shops on Fieldhouse Road has still not been repaired – two months after a petition was presented to the council.
-

'Appalling': From left, ward councillor Steve Norton, resident Dee Breckon, ward councillor John Fenty and chairman of Humberston Parish Council Harry Hall next to one of the potholes.
Councillor Peter Wheatley, the portfolio holder for environment, told a full council meeting that the authority could not repair the road because it still did not know who owned the land.
The answer dismayed ward councillor John Fenty (Con, Humberston & New Waltham) who said that someone had broken their leg after falling on the uneven surface in September.

Chairman of Humberston Parish Council, Harry Hall said the parish council had passed information relating to the ownership of the land to NELC two months ago.
Dee Breckon, 72, who started a petition signed by more than 500 people, said: "It is 100 times worse than it was. It is absolutely appalling and is definitely a health and safety hazard."
The council's head of development, Jason Longhurst, that some of the landowners had been identified, and expressed hope the work would be done by the summer.

“For goodness sake what an absolute waste of Council (our) time and money!!
Its all been said before - landowners problem not council.
If the land referred to is privately owned, why take the problem to the council - and worse still why do these councillors respond.
How many shops are we talking about here - hardly a High Street shopping centre is it, as previously noted the Chemist will probably go now that the Doctors has moved. Also previously noted, its a footpath used as a parking area for 1 or 2 cars, not a car park and there is a large car park just a few feet away. Obviously all the comments are from car owners – so if you're not happy with the state of the parking facilities offered by the shops - drive somewhere else - simple!
More disturbing than the actual potholes, is the waste of council resources responding to little more than time wasting busy bodying – people will always jump on the bandwagon once someone starts 'a petition' – but you have to question some of the comments. Damaged suspension, backing into bollards etc does make one wonder if these people should be allowed on the roads – never mind pavements.
There are much greater hazards in the Humberston area - I refer to selfish, lazy residents who insist on leaving their cars on the road rather than use their driveway or garage. Not only that they also park across their gateway thinking it belongs to them giving no consideration to anyone else. Dropped-kerbs are for ALL users - pushchairs, wheelchairs etc as well as access for Emergency Vehicles. Then we have the idiots that park on bends, corners, grass verges etc everyone is just so selfish – should we see if we can blame the Council for this as well?.......Ok rant over - I have more useful things to do – like putting my car away in the garage. ;)”
