Cancelled council contract could threaten 20 jobs
UP to 20 jobs are hanging in the balance following an announcement that North East Lincolnshire Council has ended a contract with Shoreline Housing Partnership.
For the past five years the firm has been responsible for the care of almost 1,000 vulnerable people in the borough – providing home help and support for those living in their own homes.

However, NELC has announced that it has rejected Shoreline's latest tender for the contract, as it believes it can get better value for money from another firm.
Disappointed Shoreline chief executive Tony Bramley said his firm could not provide the type of service specified within the budget available without both further subsidising the additional costs and compromising quality.
The NELC Supporting People Service will now put the service to open tender in line with EU procedures.
Do you receive care from Shoreline? If so, what is your view on the ruling. Let us know by commenting on this story or e-mailing newsdesk@grimsbytelegraph.co.uk

“Dawn..
Shush.
Ok, to those council tenants that pay ALL of their rent/mortgage, then good for you.
To those that have their rent/mortgage paid for, the comment was aimed at you! Why should i pay for your easy living?
And yes, my house is paid for. Thankyou.”

“Annie im blonde don't degrade us all LOL. Lucy woop woop is ur house paid? if not then shut up as u are in thousands of pounds worth of debt till it is paid of so who's silly the council tennant who non of get rent free or the ones in stupid amounts of debt? just so u can turn round and say i won my home, well my dear one day that could go and u may become a council tennant! No one live's rent free because if u didn't get rent rebates's etc u would get it in ur hand. For instance me and my partner both care for his severly disabled nephew yes he lives with us and we get £55 p.w BETWEEN us carer's allowance, yes we get so much rent paid but that's the deal why it is so low carer's allowance because if it was higher ud pay rent because it's not high u get it paid, so im sorry u feel we are all free loaders as we have a council property. Stupid girl!”

“Lucy,
I would be very careful what you wish on other people, as you know nothing about these each individual case, and you know what they say, what goes around comes around, with unemployment as it is at the moment you may be one step away yourself from a situation like this, or are you a kept woman?”

“Lucy,
What a stupid, ill-informed, bigotted, crass comment. My parents worked all their lives, owned their own home all their lives but had to go into sheltered housing during their declining years (before Shoreline took over).
How can you make such a stupid remark - are you blonde?”

“To Lucy, look around you in Grimsby and Cleethorpes, there are plenty of unemployed people in the area, who do own their own properties, or are buying them, they happen to get their interest paid on their mortgages, and a reduction in council tax if their circumstances allow.
So before you open your mouth and denegrate people, try looking at others circumstances. Furthermore Shoreline will tell you the majority of people in their homes do actually pay their own rent and council tax. You and your family are lucky to have jobs, others have been made redundant with no severence pay.”

“Not everyone can afford to buy their own house in these economic conditions. Not everyone wants to own a home anyway. Some like to rent , it gives them more flexibility and choice.
The government want people to move to different areas where there are more opportunities for employment but they seem to be only considering council tenants who fear losing their homes should they choose to move to these golden lands. Those who buy their own are not included in the equation . Why not?.
My parents chose to live in council housing since shortly after the second world war ( they are since both deceased ) even though my father , if he so wished to , could have bought his own. He chose to rent and never thought himself to be considered a charity case . He and my mother both worked hard to make ends meet supporting the family. He did this and he was proud to do so .
When I saw the headline about 20 people losing their jobs my first thought was WHO would be losing jobs? . You can bet your sweet little lives it will not be the guys at the top - the big earners. Wouldn`t it be more sense to pay them less? or maybe get rid of some of the fat cats?. Just who are the 20 anyway? - the small fry at the bottom of the food chain?.”

“You lairy thing, Lucy. I rent a Havelok house and have done for 20 years. I and my husband work and have always paid our own rent. Not everybody wants to or is able to, for various reasons, buy a house. Just who do you think you are, you stuck up little madam. To use your own language, keep your bl**dy nose out!”

“The jobs won't be lost because whoever wins the tender will have to take on the Shoreline employees under the TUPE regulations.
That is true, but they only have to keep them for a limited period. When shoreline initially won the contract, they took on the staff there previously and got rid of them after a year to employ their own.
As for you, Shoreline Resident..
Get a job and pay for your own bl**dy house.”
