THIS year's Cleethorpes Carnival Parade raised £3,717.24 in just two hours.

As reported, the spectacle – which saw 65 floats wind their way along a four-mile route from Sidney Park to Meridian Point on Saturday – was a resounding success.

Organiser Leanor Pidgen was delighted with the turn-out from local organisations – and the support from residents, who turned up in their hundreds.

A team of judges, including Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers and Grimsby Telegraph deputy editor Michelle Hurst, watched the parade from the Promenade and marked floats on a variety of categories.

Here are the results in full:

Best Organisation: First, Centa Stage; second, Bedz 4Bee 2; third, Rainbow Centre, Grimsby In Bloom and Toria Dance School.

Best Majorettes: First, Arena entertainment Grimsby majorettes; second, Area entertainment Ashby majorettes; third, Lincs majorettes.

Best Novelty Float: First, Bedz 4 Bee 2; second, Recycling NELC; third, Klever K9s and the Russell family.

Best Local School: Stamford School.

Best Local Band: First, Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets; second, Sambalada; third, Stamford School.

Leanor said: "Congratulations go to everyone who took part – it was a brilliant event."

“Elaine, I've read plenty of coverage about them in the Telegraph, so they do get support. As you live in Bolton, perhaps you are not aware of such coverage. Anyway, here's a link to one advertising the weekend's event: http://www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/news/Yee-ha-Wild-West-coming-town/article-2272168-detail/article.html”

“We traveled up for the carnival weekend because we heard "THE WILD BUNCH SHOWTEAM" where putting on a show and as usual they were fantastic. With 5 shows on sat and holding up the trains on sunday all in aid of the princess dianna special care baby unit a local charity. I must admit iam sorry to see this paper saw fit to not even give them a mention. When i think of all the hard work they must put into putting the shows on. They build a town and give very well rehearsed shows which are done to cds played through a sound system so all the audiance can hear. I can only assume they spend hours in rehearsal and all for no payment to the members. People like this should be praised to the hilts.

Maybe next time they appear this paper will give them the praise they deserve.”

“Seriously is this all the people of grimsby and cleethorpes have to offer. This carnival used to be fantastic. As a child i remember over a hunred floats inwhich they were all highly decorated and the people were giving away hats, balloons, sweets and other gimmicks. All this carnival had to offer was a few well decorated floats were quite clearly the people had gone to lot of trouble. The odd council float and lots of random cars which were quite honestly not worth watching. Next year lets encourage the businesses back. Although this maybe seen as a trade show at least they will put some effort in due to the fact they are promoting their businesses. You never know they may even stump up some freebiees for the kids. So for all those reading this lets encourage our schools, charities and local businesses to come up with a knockout carnival for next year.”
