Cat owner praises neighbour for rescuing pet from dog attack
A GRATEFUL cat owner has praised the actions of his neighbour who rescued his pet from a savage dog attack.
Kirt Reynolds, 28, of Fuller Street, Cleethorpes, is convinced his four-year-old cat, Percy, would have been killed by two Staffordshire bull terrier-type dogs if Sarah Kemp had not intervened – less than a week after a similar incident in St Peter's Avenue.
Sarah, 27, confronted the dogs in an alleyway outside her home after being awoken by the noise of them knocking over her wheelie bin.
On going outside, she saw that one of the dogs, who were both with their owner but not on leads, had Percy it its jaws, and forced it to release him by punching it and pressing her thumb in its eye.

She shielded Percy under her dressing gown before calling a vet. He had suffered internal bleeding, broken ribs and a dislocated leg in the attack, which happened just after midnight on Saturday.
Kirt said: "If Sarah had not gone out and confronted the dogs, Percy would not be with us."
Kirt expressed his gratitude to other neighbours who came to Percy's aid before he was taken to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital. He is currently at Clee Veterinary Centre for observation.
Police are appealing for witnesses to call 101, quoting log 355 of September 1.
Meanwhile, the owner of the two dogs involved in the fatal attack on a cat in St Peter's Avenue has taken extra precautions.
Cornelius Lytollis, 32, says he is at a loss as to how his pet Staffordshire bull terriers Zeus and Achilles got out of his back yard on August 26.
Mr Lytollis was out when he received a call informing him that the dogs had got into a neighbour's back garden and killed her four-year-old cat, Roly.
He took the dogs straight to a kennel in Market Rasen and considered having them put down before having a change of heart.
He said: "I love them too much. They are the nicest dogs in the world and have no problems with humans."
He has erected an eight-foot high steel fence behind the wall which separates his yard from the adjoining alleyway.
He is also making the internal doors of his house more secure, and said the dogs would be kept in large cages when no one was at home.
Mr Lytollis admitted they had escaped once before about two months ago, when they injured another neighbour's cat.
He added: "I couldn't be more sorry."
The cat owner, who did not wish to be named, had just called her five-year-old son inside when the attack happened.
She said: "He looked out of the window and saw it. The owner apologised. If he's taken extra precautions to stop them getting out again, that's a step forward."
A Humberside Police spokesman said: "Officers are currently working to establish what happened with a view to taking appropriate action."

“the dogs shouldnt be off leads when they are viscious dogs, obviously he has no control over them! it could be a child next. well done to the neighbour who helped the poor cat! the owner should get the dogs put to sleep, so it doesnt happe again”

“animal_owner .....re your quote as follows.
"The person whose dogs did kill a cat previously has bothered to find out how the dogs were getting out and has tried to secure the garden and prevent them from escaping and possibly doing what they have done in the past"
The following line is from the article.
Cornelius Lytollis, 32, says he is at a loss as to how his pet Staffordshire bull terriers Zeus and Achilles got out of his back yard on August 26.
if you think August 26th and July 11th are in the past ,especially to the youngsters who had to witness these dogs attacking their pets then you should maybe try putting your self in their shoes.
And as for securing his property he is already having to mend his gate where they have tried to escape yet again.
watch this space is all i say as i dont think we have heard the last of these dogs and their attacks.”

“what has his ability to read and write and his past history got to do with it?..everything ,it shows his lack of intelligents and his abitility to be law abiding,is he trying to say he will not be in trouble with authorities again, this is just the latest on his list.”

“@gy82a you may not of said it in this thread but you have in other threads, I do not have a problem with reading but you give the impression that you have a right to stamp over everyone with your opinions and you are holier than thou.
People have made mistakes in their lives some learn from them and others do not, what con123's past has to do with anything here amazes me as it does not. So he has been in court for violence but that does not make him a bad dog owner and he has done his time and hopefully he has learnt from his sentences handed to him by the court.
The person whose dogs did kill a cat previously has bothered to find out how the dogs were getting out and has tried to secure the garden and prevent them from escaping and possibly doing what they have done in the past and are not the animals in question on this occasion.”

“with regards to bringing up his past ,had mr lytollis not had his name printed in the paper then no body would have .
All you have to do is put his name in a Google search and hey presto , all the past comes back to bite you him on the bum,(no pun intended)and some.
if he did not want to be classed as what people see as a stereo typical s***** owner then he should remained anonymous, as the history you have created for yourself is there for the readers of the future.
With regards to the comment "but bringing up my past is horrible and hurtful far more cold calculating than any thing my dogs have done" how hurtful do you think the actions of your dogs have been on the poor lad that saw his pet cat ripped to bits and the fact that young children no longer feel safe in their own home let alone garden. Your dogs actions will affect these kids for the rest of their childhood at least and will rob them of the freedom of being able to do what kids do and play in their own gardens without a care in the world. No amount of fencing is ever going to convince a child that the nasty dogs cant get them , especially as the dogs where so determined to get at the cat that they dug under a fence to do so.
also what happens if a cat strays into your garden? are you going to put a top on the fence and turn your whole back garden into a cage?
For history to be classed as history it needs to not be repeated .”

“gy82a by the way not all owners are morons or idiots, some have bothered to train their dogs to behave and have also done animal care courses. Accidents happen but as the saying goes "Once a dog has tasted blood it can not be trusted at all" which means that in this case this time it was a cat, next time it could be the owner or an unsuspecting child.
I love animals and have both dogs and cats living together, but if I go out I separate them to avoid any risk of accidents, as all that it takes is for either one of the cats or dogs feeling a bit off and it can result in an attack. It does not matter on breed of dog as they all have potential to snap if provoked or if not feeling 100%.
I know several people who say their dogs are Staffies when in fact they are Staffie crossed with American Pitbulls or are full American Pitbulls”
