Celebrating the arrival of autumn
I THOUGHT your readers might like to read something seasonal to give them time to think about Nature instead of all the gloomy letters there have been in Viewpoint lately. I wrote this poem as a celebration of autumn.

Dried leaves, swept by the wind
Into ever-changing patterns.
Gardens denuded of bright colours
Show the muted shades
Of orange, yellow and gold
Leaves turning to russet.
The sun low in the sky
A crimson pool
Dips below the horizon
And everywhere the scent of autumn.

“Thank you very much for that; most handsome.
There is a 'secret' holt in Grimland that reflects your view and which, miraculously so far, hasn't felt the Council's heavy hand as seen in Weelsby "Woods".
I remember waiting for the No.6 bus in Weelsby-rd, many a day and night, 70+ years ago, marvelling at a canopy that met over the road, and where, in the daytime, RED squirrels leapt what little gaps there were, back and forth, for the pleasure of it. At ground level, one HAD to be INSIDE the wood to see the trees. It wasn't then merely a 'paddock' with a few trees sticking up out of it! Is Bradley Wood still carpeted with wood anemones throughout from edge to edge, in Spring?
...When such destruction's seen, it's refreshing to read your 'write'.
Dare I suggest a ref also to Joyce Kilmer's view of what we see? Tho' Disney had a bash at her words, just post-war, and saw:

...no-one, I think, has surpassed Paul Robeson's version, well put to pictures here:

For a (PDF) portfolio of pictures taken in/of the 'secret' holt, go to meridian_obsvtry_louth @ mail.com -- the observatory is fully 'meteo' in Aristotle's sense: 'all above and around us'.”
