THE John Turner Butchers Under-15 Schools Cricket Tournament got off to a predictable start as reigning champions Humberston played Oasis Academy Wintringham.

Wintringham batted first on a green Linden Homes track – and Humberston's fielders were soon made to work as openers Josh Tomlinson and Matty Cliffe started fluently.

Skipper Cliffe (22) was bowled when he attempted one too many boundaries. Jordan Hill scored 11 before he was caught by Jack Tuttas off Lew Rodwell's delivery.

Following the departure of Tomlinson (23), Calum Carter bowled well taking two for five as Wintringham finished on 80 for five.

Carter then opened the batting for Humberston, along with Tuttas. It took a fantastic thrown from Cliffe to dismiss and run out Carter, who played well for his 17 runs.

They reached their target of 81 after just 7.3 overs. Jordan Graves finished unbeaten on 20, while Tuttas scored 36 not out.

Caistor Grammar School will take on a much-improved Saint Andrews' Academy on Monday.
