"The egg managed to raise just over £600 and we hope to beat that this time.

"We like to support local charities and, with it being Easter, we thought that we would do this for the children at the Hospice.

"In the current financial climate we feel charities need all the help they can get from donations."

Tickets for the raffle are 25p each and a strip of five can be bought for £1.

Freshney Place Shopping Centre has also thrown its support behind the fundraising effort – displaying a papier mache replica of the egg – and holding a collection for the hospice.

Centre director Amanda Austin added: "We are always happy to work with the local community to raise vital funds for charity.

"We hope the raffle is a success and the winner enjoys sharing all that chocolate with family and friends this Easter.

"I hope it also reminds us that Easter is not just about eating chocolate, but about giving and celebrating life."

Staff from Kettle's will also be selling tickets at Asda on Monday and from their offices in Granville Street, Grimsby.

The winner of the competition will be drawn on Monday, March 25.
