Circus causes a stir
A CIRCUS featuring elephants and tigers, currently at Manby showground, near Louth, has received criticism from animal protection groups.
There were no protests at the former RAF air base which is hosting The Great British Circus until Sunday, MAR29 but animal rights campaigners voiced concerns over the use of animals in such shows.
The circus features an African elephant, two Indian elephants, lions, tigers, horses and more.
The elephants are new to this year’s tour and have been the subject of complaints from The Captive Animals’ Protection Society and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals organisation.
Ringmaster and circus director Martin Lacey said his animals were regularly inspected to pass certain conditions for licences.
He added: “People vote with their feet to support us.”
