CITY Deal status could be granted to the Humber by the summer.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has today granted the approval to the area to begin the necessary steps to negotiate a package of powers it wants devolving from Westminster.

Skills and infrastructure development are high on the list as the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership and the four local authorities look to deliver on the ambition of creating the UK's 'Energy Estuary.

Lord Haskins has described the approval, issued to 20 regions, as a "landmark moment for the area's economy", with North East Lincolnshire Council leader Chris Shaw stating that it brings the area another step closer to becoming a "global leader for renewable energy".

“How very apt: today the UK wind generation is the lowest ever recorded! Just 0·1% of the UK energy demand at the time of writing, or 26·0MWe. This again as is typical co-incides with a very cold period of nearly zero wind over the whole of the UK!

http://tinyurl.com/6jws7j ( select "generation by fuel type table ).

The UK wind map backs this up, at the time of writing:

    http://tinyurl.com/5beyz

The main news item today is the ever increasing cost of energy with little mention of the vast subsidy given to the wind energy companies. It is now over a decade ago that the Labour government was warned about life expired power stations and the need to urgently go for clean new build nuclear. The dithering, exacerbated by the dash for gas and green technology, has left the UK at the mercy of mostly foreign companies/shareholders now able to hold the UK to ransom for ever more subsidy incentives. Millions now entering fuel poverty have not even begun to pay the future massive taxes, stealth taxes (ROCs subsidies) associated with the wind turbine fiasco.

Foreign energy companies now have the ability to cry wolf on investment unless the UK government sanctions fiscal incentives. These usually mean foreign shareholders requiring more payback on investment and dividends leaving the UK. The energy industry has the UK over the proverbial energy barrel. How many UK companies are going to build power generators/equipment and even more important employ the once promised "thousands of UK jobs!" As the European wind energy reaches saturation, clearly experienced labour becomes available for the "real jobs." We will pick up the crumbs, mainly servicing and low skilled jobs.

And one day perhaps soon, the UK consumer will be in revolt at the staggering cost of the wind folly and force the next government to abandon subsidies as is happening in other countries. There will then follow a scramble to get out of wind, because no wind generator is anywhere near being able to operate without subsidy.

The relatively few jobs created, far less than promised, are not viable on their merits. The cost of wind jobs is mind blowingly expensive compared to most other industries. This whole industry is subsidy driven and in fact operated for shareholders to cream off the £billions forced on the consumer. IT MAY NOT BE POLITICALLY SUSTAINABLE !”
