Cleethorpes 'might be the best of Britain'
CLEETHORPES In Bloom is hoping for a flowering success in this year's Britain In Bloom finals.
The resort has been selected from more than 1,000 entries to take part in the 2012 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain In Bloom UK Finals.

GOING FOR GOLD: Cleethorpes In Bloom chairman Bob Callison, left, and vice-chairman Jeff Blanchard are delighted the resort has been selected to take part in the Britain In Bloom UK Finals.
This year, Cleethorpes In Bloom has again entered the Champion Of Champions category, which they claimed in 2010.
And following on from the success of gaining gold in last year's Coastal Region category, the town is hoping to take more spoils this year, competing against Stockton, Thornbury, Forres and Broughshane in the Champions section.
Ranging from small villages to major industrial cities, each finalist is aiming for a gold medal and the coveted title of category winner.
Jeff Blanchard, vice-chairman of Cleethorpes In Bloom, said: "It is fantastic to be in the Champion Of Champions category again.
"We are all very proud and pleased with all the public help we have received over the years.
"It is a feather in a cap, as you would say. All the hard work means we could be the best of the best and we have proved it over the years.
"Cleethorpes In Bloom is very consistent with getting good results; we have been this category winner more than once.
"In Bloom has had terrific backing from North East Lincolnshire Council, local public and local businesses.
"It will be a wonderful result to boost Cleethorpes because we would gain national publicity.
"On the Cleethorpes In Bloom posters, we already have the backing from the RHS by using its logo."
RHS Britain In Bloom is the nation's largest environmental campaign and involves more than 200,000 volunteers in the community.
RHS director general Sue Biggs said: 'RHS Britain In Bloom would be nothing without the enormous number of volunteers who are committed to greening up their corner of the nation.
"Together they plant more than 115,000 trees, 352,000 shrubs and 21.6 million plants and bulbs annually. The positive impact this has on the environment is enormous.
"It is an absolute honour for the RHS to be associated with these groups and I wish Cleethorpes the very best of luck."
The 2012 RHS Britain In Bloom results will be announced in October at a special awards ceremony in St Peter Port, Guernsey.
As always, your Grimsby Telegraph will be on hand with the latest In Bloom news throughout the campaign.

“I think Cleethorpes in Bloom is tremendous and we should all be extremely proud of the presentation. Last summer I couldn't get enough of seeing it and spent a lot of time soaking it up and I live here. If it looked like some drab hole from behind the old iron curtain I wouldn't bother and the many pounds I spend enjoying myself there would stay in my bank account. That would also be the case for the many people from other parts of the country that I speak to, enjoying the experience as well and they also spend money and will return again and again, to spend more and more.
I felt privileged to speak to the hard working gardeners and to thank them for their efforts. It's money well spent because it persuades so many people to come for a day or an early evening out after work from South Yorkshire (it's only one hour). Surely if we maintain progress of presentation we'll persuade even the Lancastrians to flock here along the M62.
So many people here are totally negative here nynynynyny, we can't afford flowers nynynyny or to pay for councillors nynynyny and jobsworths nynyny so lets all troll and be miserable and moan yeyeyeye.
No, I'm not with the council and don't know anyone who works for them. I've never even seen my ward councillor but I'm grateful to them all, for their hard work and efforts and I'm very resentful of the negative backbiters with nothing to offer, other than undeserved criticism and so Fan and I will dig deep! Is that right Fan?
'F' Certainly is P_!”

“The town is short of money, people are short of money, jobs are drying up and yet we still spend 'silly money' on this. I think their priorities are wrong.”
