Cleethorpes people gathered in their thousands to welcome the 2012 Olympic Torch.

They lined the streets, the prom and thousands more had assembled in the Meridian Showground to see the cauldron lit on stage during the entertainment.

There was a sea of red, white and blue flags, hats and banners welcoming the huge entourage that accompanied the Olympic Torchbearers en route.

Local fundraiser Surinder Fowler brought the 'Flame' onto Cleethorpes soil as far as Daubney Street and handed it over to Jenny Clark, of Scartho.

I caught up with it at the Cleethorpes Light Railway were Torchbearer Micky Clorley aged 56 from Grimsby posed for photographs on the train.

When I reached the Meridian Showgroud I was just in time to see 92-year-old, Jack Andrew, from Wakefield, a WW2 veteran, run into the venue with the Torch and light the cauldron to great cheers.

By the way I missed Twist and Pulse so I've no pictures of them! So if you have taken any please post them on the site.

A number 9 bus full of passengers got caught up in the middle of the entourage along the route. I hope none of the passengers were in a hurry to get to their destination.

I understand some people were stopped from bringing umbrellas and picnics into the Meridian Showground, and I don't really know why. It was raining a bit and I always thought the Meridian encouraged people to bring their own picnics - did this happen to you?

There was a fantastic atmosphere along the route and it was heart-warming to hear everyone cheer the Torchbearers and in the Meridian Showground everyone seemed to be having a great time.

“yeah we were nearly stopped from taking our umbrella & big flag that we had just paid £3 for from people selling to the crowd waiting but manage to get them to change their minds after a bit of moaning.
It was a brilliant event, wouldn't have minded if we had had to pay to get in, we were 10 rows from the front & thought there might be a bit of pushing but everyone was polite.

Freedom107 @least with this the whole country has been involved whereas Football, u would never get the England team touring the WHOLE country so there is a bit of difference.”
