She was also impressed by the area's accommodation, including the Humber Royal, Grimsby, Kingsway in Cleethorpes and the Oaklands in Laceby.

Ms Eynon said: "We have been trying to bring the awards here for a long while and now we are good to go for 2013.

"Cleethorpes has been a great example of what can be achieved through In Bloom. They got all the way through to the UK finals, they were in the Champion of Champions. It is great for the awards to be held in a place that can serve as an example to other finalists.

"It shows them how much can be achieved."

Hosting Britain In Bloom will bring 500 people into the resort who are likely to stay the weekend.

Before the ceremony they will be given a tourist information pack telling them the best places to visit, eat, see and do.

Chairman Bob Callison is confident Cleethorpes will host the awards on Saturday, October 12, brilliantly.

He said: "We have wanted this for many years, it is a great way to advertise Cleethorpes and North East Lincolnshire as a whole."

“"Before the ceremony they will be given a tourist information pack telling them the best places to visit, eat, see and do". Well, that will be a short list, especially coming on 12th October when nothing is open. If this area was an exam paper it would get a U, thats how rubbish it is! I would also like to see a published break down of how the £30,000 Callison commited us to spend will be used!”
