Cleethorpes officially has one of the best beaches in the country
CLEETHORPES can officially boast that it has one of the best beaches in the country after retaining a duo of prestigious coastal awards.
The resort has maintained its Blue Flag status for yet another year – reaffirming its position as one of the cleanest sandy stretches the UK has to offer.
After a run of achieving the accolade in successive years, the status was lost in 2008 following the devastating floods of 2007, which affected the water quality.
But it was regained in 2009 and continued to fly in both 2010 and 2011.

Awarded by Keep Britain Tidy, the Blue Flag is billed as an "essential accolade" for any beach resort as it helps to attract more tourists to the area.
A total of six beaches in Lincolnshire were awarded with both the Blue Flag and Quality Coast award for beach management – including Cleethorpes, Mablethorpe, Skegness and Sutton-on-Sea.
Local business owners have welcomed the accolades, saying that the recognition will serve to attract more tourists to the resort.
Owen Taylor, owner of Taylor Made Fun amusement arcades, said: "To be given any award is fantastic news and it can only be good for the resort.
"You cannot overvalue the importance of clean water and a tidy beach, so these awards are great for Cleethorpes.
"But there is a huge competition for that 'tourist pound' and we, as a resort, need to push forward.
"It's great that we have these awards to attract the tourists, but we now need to make sure that we put on even more events for them when they get here."
Andy McCluskey, owner of Kingsway Kiosk, said: "The resort got off to a very poor start to the year with the bad weather so to retain these awards for another year will be a real shot in the arm for tourism.
"In retaining these awards, we are sending out a very positive message about Cleethorpes – it is clean and tidy and a great place to visit."
North East Lincolnshire Council was unavailable for comment, but Councillor Craig Leyland, portfolio holder for the economy at East Lindsey District Council, said: "We're immensely proud of the area's success.
"Both awards are about quality and this places our coast as one of the best for cleanliness and a good visitor experience.
"We must continue to build on this success and ensure the East Lindsey coast remains a must-visit destination, not just in the summer, but all year round.
"Well done to everyone who has made the excellent achievement possible."
