A Cleethorpes primary school has become the first in North East Lincolnshire to make their entire site a smoking-free zone.

St. Peter’s C of E Primary School has been presented with Silver and Gold certificates in the Smokefree Schools Award Scheme.

Though buildings were already covered under national no smoking legislation, the award is given to schools who make their car parks, play areas and footpaths smoke-free as well.

Commenting on the award, head teacher of the school, Mrs. Jo Wiseman, said: “We believe that our school should set an example to the wider community, and prohibit smoking anywhere on our site.

“We ask parents not to smoke whilst waiting for children after school, and to reduce wherever possible young people’s exposure to tobacco smoke. We also encourage smokers to seek help from local services to help them to stop smoking.

“We are of course delighted to be the first primary school in North East Lincolnshire to achieve the award.”

The award scheme is open to all schools in North East Lincolnshire with several more schools in the area already working towards the award.

Oasis Academy Wintringham was the first senior school in the area to achieve the award in May 2011.

“What we really need to see is the General Hospital make their site a smoke-free site, rather just put signs up, declaring that it is such a beast.

If that was provocative, what about them refusing to treat people who need to ''nip out for a fag'', and I don't mean go seeking the inter-personally mono-phenotypical!!!!!!
