Club shut down following assault
A CLEETHORPES nightclub has been forced to close with immediate effect after a serious assault.
North East Lincolnshire Council licensing committee met behind closed doors yesterday to order the emergency suspension of the licence of Flares and Reflex nightclub, on Alexandra Road, Cleethorpes.
-

As reported, nightclub guest Gavin Rogers 25, was critically injured following an assault in the car park at the rear of the venue.
Humberside Police applied for a summary review of the premises licence because of “serious concerns” over the management of the venue.
NELC Licensing Sub-Committee suspended the venue’s licence, pending a full review, which will take place within 28 days.
The venue will therefore be closed with immediate effect until the full review takes place.
Cllr John Colebrook, chair of the sub-committee, said: “Although the Police have been working closely with the premises licence holder of Flares/Reflex since the serious incident which took place on Sunday, members of the Licensing Sub-Committee have heard that the police are not satisfied that the premises can be adequately managed in such a way as to prevent serious crime and serious disorder.”
The owners have two days in which to lodge an appeal.

“from what i have been told it was 4 bouncers that did this to that man and that they have lost their doorman licences, so why close flares? just get some decent doormen, my boyfriend of 4 yrs used to be a doorman at flares and he wouldnt dream of hurting someone in that manner, there r some decent doormen out there that will make that place more safer and stop the trouble rather than cause it and make it worse. so there is no need to close flares, as all the other pubs r full of drugs and underage kids and thugs”

“Oh dear Oh dear, No where to go ,Flares this, Flares that, ooo here's a thought what about the poor guy who got hurt, may be if it had been your brother you may think differently. This guy isn't my brother nor a friend but what ever went on he did not deserve to end up how he is now. As for Flares, well shut the place, put it in the hands of a licensee who can run a pub correctly with sound and uncorrupted judgement and select both staff that protect and serve the public correctly and not to be part of the in scene to look as part of the in crowd.”

“Well said Deano...most people will no the real reason the place has been shut down. About time to, maybe the owners will now sort it out instaed of turning a blind eye to whats been going on.”

“Well done to the council for making the right desicion to close this place for those of you who are wonder why it has been closed and it isnt just because of the serious assault on gavin it is for a number of reasons in which i cannot say for legal reasons but all i will say is that in time the truth will come out about this venue, then maybe you will understand why it has lost its licence”

“Kate, I can appreciate that it is a serious incident, I'm not going to pretend it isn't, but I don't think Flares/Reflex should be closed because of it. It wasn't even inside the place, it was round the back, and I think it would be a great shame to lose the place because of it. It is my favourite nighclub in Grimsby/Cleethorpes, and is loved by friends and relatives of mine from age 18 right up to age 70. I'm going out next Saturday night for a friend's 18th and we're at a loss as to where to go because the plan was to spend most of the night in there. If this had happened to me or a friend/family member, I still wouldn't want the place to close.”
