YOU can nominate an area for convicted criminals to work in as part of repaying their debt to society.

The Community Payback scheme, which sees members of the public decide what community punishment convicted criminals should face.

Marcus Czarnecki, neighbourhood crime and justice coordinator for Safer and Stronger Communities, believes the alleyway job shows the effectiveness of Community Payback.

He said: "Community Payback is demanding, it is in the public eye and it's the public – not the courts – who decide what type of work offenders do."

As reported, Russell Daniels, 23, of Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, was one of the men who cleaned up an alleyway between Humberville Road and Pelham Road, Immingham.

He said: "Community Payback has really made me look at my life and I really don't want to ever come back."

You can nominate at your local forum, neighbourhood group, or through the Probation website http://www.humberside-probation.org.uk/payback.htm

See today's Grimsby Telegraph for more on how Daniels has been helped by Community Payback.

Classic example of Divide and Rule.

This is quite simply a numbers game, the authorities are just cashing in on public support by giving members of the public the responsibility of the courts, at the expense of convicted criminals. Don't fall for it, make the courts do what their paid for.”

“Lee, all four offenders were returned to court for breach of order. The advice these four men were given was flawed. Eventually all four pleaded guilty to breach of order and each mans sentence was extended. The mitigating circumstances were dropped by their own lawyers before the trial.

“What ever happened to those people that refused to clean up top town. (I think it was town anyway) and walked out as they would of been in the public eye and were unhappy as the thought.”
