SOME Louth Town Councillors raised concerns about the new flood warning system being implemented.

Cllr Trevor Marris said: “I have concerns about the telephone system as not everybody has mobile phones or someone may not be near a phone when flooding happens. The sirens are very, very useful because you can hear them wherever you are.”

Cllr Mary Finch added: “A siren tells everybody in the town at the same time.”

The decision was made by Lincolnshire County Council to replace the warning system as the outdated sirens can no longer be repaired and that the Environment Agency’s Floodline warning system is far more efficient.

The removal and decommissioning of the signals will cost £76,000 but in the long term this will save annual running costs of £47,000.
